EL DORADO, AR (KTVE) – A group in South Arkansas is combating hunger for senior citizens.

United Way of Union County is sponsoring a ‘Soup for Senior’s Food Drive’ that will continue through Jan. 14.

Representatives say 1 in 4 seniors in Arkansas is going hungry.

To try and fix this issue, United Way is asking residents of Union County and surrounding areas to go to their local dropoff locations and donate canned food items.

“Now that the holidays are over, the weather is getting colder; they may not have the opportunity to get out. What we are trying to do is ask people to bring cans of soup, crackers, fruit cups, that sort of thing,” says Alexis Alexander, United Way Executive Director.
