Jay Bir is a political anchor/reporter for KARK 4 News and our sister station Fox16.
Joining the station in 2006 as a news and sports photographer, Jay was promoted in 2019 to political reporter and host of our Sunday morning political program Capitol View on KARK.
Jay has done extensive sports reporting for both of our stations since 2007, when he began filling in for the Game of the Week for our Fearless Friday high school football coverage. That same year, he also began anchoring the acclaimed Fearless Friday Underground web show.
Jay was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma but grew up in Sunrise, Florida and moved to Arkansas with his family in 1998, where he attended high school at Sylvan Hills. After graduation in 2002, Jay headed to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro where he majored in Radio-TV and also got a minor in Political Science.
It was at a young age that Jay realized he probably wouldn’t play sports for a living, so he wanted to do the next best thing…talk about them! Growing up in Florida and being a sports fan, Jay became a follower of the Miami sports scene. The Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, and Florida Panthers are the favorite teams that he follows. Not many people can say that they’ve been there since a team’s beginning, but Jay was in South Florida when both the Marlins and Panthers started up. But Jay is really a fan of sports in general and won’t hesitate to tell you about everything from Curling to Ice Hockey to Track and Field to the NBA.
While not working on sports (which is rare), you can find Jay still watching sports. He is also an avid runner and is a regular participant in the Little Rock Marathon. He is still a kid at heart and loves to play video games, Call of Duty being one of his favorites. Jay is also the most lit on Twitter and if you’re not following him, you’re definitely missing out! He loves to interact on Twitter, so feel free to tweet him your thoughts.
Jay and his wife Kat live in Sherwood with their two children, Ace and Avi, and their pup Coal.
